Kasey Kahne’s case for winning the Sprint Cup went up massively after he finished first in a giant race on Sunday in Georgia.
Previously, Kahne found himself at eleventh overall in the chase for the cup, although this win boosted him five places, all the way into 6th overall. With the post-season made up of twelve drivers and simply one race left until the playoffs are determined, Kahne’s chances of reaching the playoffs look particularly more likely than they formerly did.
During the race, it looked as if it was Kevin Harvick’s race to victory Harvick, who came up victorious at the Nationwide race the previous night, was looking good until Clint Bowyer ran into danger with only 15 laps remaining. Bowyer, Harvick’s teammate, killed his chances for capturing the event, as Kahne took advantage of the caution and came out on top by about two seconds.
Harvick, who finished in second overall, just fell short of his 1st win during the ‘09 race year. finishing in third place was Juan Pablo Montoya, who is now seeking out his 1st playoff entry and looks like he may be able to get it done.
Kahne was pleased with the race all in all. Pleased with the car, he attributed his glory in the race to its attributes - and naturally, a little help regarding Kevin Harvick’s struggles.
Coming in sixth at the race was Denny Hamlin. With this result, Hamlin is currently the fourth NASCAR racer to secure a playoff spot in the chase for the cup. Hamlin joins Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and as it should go without saying, Jimmy Johnson, who has won the last three years.
When asked regarding his prospects, Kahne showed good hopefulness.
Having had the advantage of a good performing vehicle in the race, Kahne attributes its stability to his triumph in the race.
Though there was a little movement amongst the twelve seeds for the Chase, nobody was displaced from the top twelve this past weekend. The lead is maintained by Tony Stewart, with Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson just behind. Additional racers include Denny Hamlin, Carl Braylon, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, and 5 others. Occupying the thirteen and fourteen position are Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch, who both really need huge performances next weekend if they would like a shot at the Chase.
